Shift detail

Use this function to define a working pattern, also known as a shift, for a single unspecified day of the week.

This function uses the 24-hour clock. You use it to define the actual start time and actual end time of a period of continuous work in any working day.

You only use this function to define a period of continuous work. If a shift has a break within the start and end of the working day such as a lunch break, shift change time, or incident that regularly affects a working day such as machine downtime, you should add 2 shifts. 1 shift for each period of continuous work either side of the break.

Create a shift

  1. To add a new shift, select Add.
  2. Enter the shift ID, then give your shift a Name.

A shift can be attributed to multiple shift patterns and to multiple days in a working week. You should consider the purpose of the shift and enter an ID and Name that are relevant to the working pattern. For example, a shift that starts at 8∶00 AM and ends at 12∶30 PM when employees stop for lunch could have the ID 4H30, or 4H30AM to indicate a morning shift. For this example, the Name could be 4 HOURS 30 MINUTES or 4 HOURS 30 MINUTES AM.

  3. Leave the Duration field blank and enter the actual Start time of the shift.

For example, enter 14∶15 if the working day or shift starts at a quarter past 2 in the afternoon.

  4. Enter the actual End time of the shift.

For example, enter 17∶15 if the working day or shift ends at a quarter past 5 in the evening.

  5. Save your shift details.

The Duration of the shift is calculated and displayed.

Edit or delete a shift

You can edit all the Shift detail fields except the Duration field as the duration of the shift is calculated automatically.

You can only delete a Shift detail record that has not been assigned to a Daily shift.
